So dose the with tangerine phase plug have better highs? SeanWhat I would do is use lansingg GPA diaphragms presuming they are 8 ohm standard aluminum and make my own Model Nineteen type crossovers. Also does Radian diaphragm make things equal.
All vintage USA audio 1930s ~ 1980s
The XB, and XG i used “X” because they were both available in 8 or 16 ohm lasning other impedances by special order are the tangerine equipped versions of the large alnico body. We see and hear any lasing radical changes in tone, and performance and various points. Extra Tabs by vBulletin Hispano. AFAIK, the only difference between an and an is vintage. There is light oxidation under the around paper 808-a8 material, throat channel, and top pole plate visible around diaphragm also normal from age.
Another interesting note, well to some of us anyway, the new small format drivers from GPA use a phase plug very similar to the tangerine, but it has only 9 slits vs the 13 of the tangerine. These factors, together with the all-important ALTEC criteria of engineering experience, combine to produce the A and A high-frequency loudspeakers of virtually matchless quality and limitless application.

If your As have the Symbiotic ‘frams they came with though, there’s likely more room for improvement there. Pictured are plans and a photo a fella sent me of a Nineteen crossover he made. I’d fab something out of any material you have on hand with good electrical insulating qualities.
Either driver is capable of uniform, peak-free reproduction to a point far above the range of human hearing. They sound matched, clean and quite detailed. The paint on both drivers is fairly clean, with only a few blemishes normal for lqnsing — one driver has a mild touch up spot on the rear top.
I haven’t encountered the grey phase plug yet, but the surprises never cease.
To view the original document, you can use the “Original mode”. Both measure around 8 ohms and cycles, and have fairly close resonance points — this is a well matched pair. That will give you clear, coherant and extended highs without the formidable problems of integrating a seperate tweeter, tweeters which are often alltec dismal sounding anyway.
Both units work wonderfully.
