ALSA’s default configuration is problematic. The sound drivers corrupted the system somehow. If that didn’t happen, something is wrong with the card didnt get intialised. This also added some new features. Sound font installed as ydsxg. The Aureal driver for DOS can be said to “work” in real mode as well as in virtual mode; however, either way it caused corruption and crashes, and either way you are stuck using the unimpressive emulated OPL3 with no wavetable MIDI. The resampling is stuck into drivers which introduce significant lag into running applications.

DLL Like snd-ymfpci, this module does not enable the joystick unless asked. The single output jack claims to be line level but is plenty loud and noisy.
Enabling chorus and reverb caused the drums to stop working in DN3D and they didn’t come back after disabling effects and doing a cold reboot. Hardware compatibility is nearly impossible for any Intel chipset later than 8xx. There is, however, a proliferation of subdevices appearing through ALSA to support hardware mixing. While Ensoniq’s approach generally worked with most games, some older games had problems detecting the virtualized hardware on some systems. Ds had some surprises for the market. AudioPCI, while designed to be cheap, is still quite functional.

DN3D sound tests are fine except for the reversed channels but the game locks up. COM refuses to load or attempting to initialize sound in a game results in a crash, lockup, or spontaneous reboot, regardless of configuration.
The OPL2 emulation is basically the worst ever. It was one of the first cards to have Microsoft DirectSound3D 4-speaker playback support. In the mixer there are three volume controls that affect wav sound output: Z I have downloaded the dos drivers from the vogons drivers page, but they simply don’t work for me.
It’s too barebones and it has PCI issues sometimes. Cards targeted toward audio production of course had multiple hardware clocks but they care less about compatibility with DOS video games.
The chip was also a PCI bus master device rs1370 was designed to provide high-speed access to system RAM and resources, for sample synthesis data and effect processing.
